Recruitment Form

In just a few weeks, the National Fraternity will be hosing on September 17 a Recruitment Forum at Eta Chapter on the campus of the University of Missouri-Rolla.  This marks the first time in many years that the National Fraternity has hosted a National Event during the Fall Semester.  In addition, it will be the first time in many years where the National Fraternity has hosted an event whose sole purpose was to discuss Recruitment.

The Forum is being lead by Kevin Stinn, who was recently hired as the new Leadership Director for the Fraternity.  In addition, to the educational sessions that Kevin will be leading, there will be ample opportunity for Recruitment Chairman to interact with each other, learn, and to share experiences and materials about the recruitment process.  While most of the sessions will be geared to Recruitment Chairman and future Recruitment Chairman, the National Fraternity invites all members interested in Recruiting to attend the Forum.

The final time schedule for the Forum has not been set, but is likely to run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  There will be small registration fee to help cover the costs of food and supplies that can be paid at the time of registration.  That fee will likely be between $5 and $10.  If you are interested in more details please contact Kevin Stinn at leadershipdirector@betasigmapsi.org.

Fraternity Hires Leadership Director

The National Fraternity is pleased to announce the hiring of Kevin Stinn from Epsilon Chapter as the Leadership Director for the 2005 – 2006 and 2006 – 2007 school years.  Kevin’s priorities for the 2005 – 2006 school year will be 1) Chapter Operations, 2) Member Education, and 3) Growth.  Kevin will be accomplishing these goals by spending a considerable amount of time on the front lines working with our chapters.

The National Fraternity would like to thank the Housing Foundation and the Educational Foundation for their gracious support in providing the resources necessary to have Kevin on staff.  Kevin can be contacted by e-mail at leadershipdirector@betasigmapsi.org.  More information about Kevin will be appearing in the upcoming issue of the Gold Rose which will be hitting mailboxes around the middle of September.

2006 MEF/NBT Date Change

Congressional Letter Writing Campaign

The National Fraternity is participating in a Grassroots Letter Writing Campaign to members of Congress to assist in the passage of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act.  CHIA as it has come to be known in Fraternity circles would allow existing 501(c)(3) organizations, of which the Educational Foundation is classified as, to make grants to organizations which own collegiate housing for the purpose of making general physical improvements to the structure.  Currently, funds from 501(c)(3) organizations can only be used to make improvements to areas which are used for educational purposes.

We are asking our members to send letters to there respective Congressman and Senators asking them to sponsor and support the Collegiate Housing Infrastructure Act.  The letters have already been drafted, and so all it takes is adding your name and university to the letter before it can be sent.

More information about CHIA, the Letter Writing Campaign, and the sample letters can be found by going to http://www.betasigmapsi.org/congress.  If you have any questions please contact Chad Pfister.

God’s “Work Week”

Pastor Mark Heilmann – National Pastoral Advisor

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion in the day of Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 1:6

The week before classes is often a “work week” as houses like yours where everyone works hard to get the house in shape before the school year starts. The idea is to get it clean enough so that it won’t be so hard to keep up during weekly clean ups. It can be great after a week of hard work to sit around with your brothers, survey all that you have done, and say, “This is good.”

God had a “work week” back in Genesis 1 when He created the world. He did the job right. After each day of creation Genesis tells us that “God saw that it was good.”

After six days of creation, Genesis says that God “rested.” A lot of people believe that God or “a god” shaped the world to begin with, but not it is off on its own. 400 years ago people spoke of God as being the “majestic clockmaker.” God made the universe like a giant clock, wound it up, and then let it run on its own.

But God didn’t sit back in an easy chair after the week of creation and “veg-out” in front of a TV screen all day. He continues to create. Hebrews 1:5 says that He “sustains all things by His Word of power.” If God took vacation, even for a microsecond, the world and we would cease to exist.

That continuing creation especially involves what God does in us. He made us and gave us new life in Christ Jesus. But His work didn’t stop there. Paul tells us in Philippians 1:6 that the God who began a good work in us when He brought us to faith will bring it to completion when Jesus comes again to take us to eternal life in heaven. 24-7 God is working in us so that we grow in Christ and are held firm to Him through all the experiences of our lives.

Your “work week,” won’t end when the house is all cleaned up. Classes will begin, house activities will get into full swing, and “RUSH” is an ongoing process. Especially your calling as brothers in Christ Jesus leads you to advance His Kingdom as both individuals and as a house. But you can go on knowing that the God who never stops creating wants to work through you and me to create new life in others. He has begun a good work in you. And He will bring it to completion as you and I participate in God’s ongoing “work week.”

Trying to Increase Subscription Base

It is the goal of the National Board to use Marty’s Boys as a means of communicating on a more frequent basis with alumni, collegiate members, and all parties interested in the happenings of Beta Sigma Psi.  In order to do that, we are asking that you pass along Marty’s Boys to friends, family, advisors, and church officials that may not be currently subscribed to Marty’s Boys.  While we have done our best to ensure that we are reaching as many people as possible, there is always at least one person who we inevitably miss.

If someone would like to subscribe to Marty’s Boys they can do so by going to the following website http://lists.betasigmapsi.org/listinfo.cgi/martysboys-betasigmapsi.org.  If they have any problems they should contact Chad Pfister.

National Board of Directors Seeking Volunteers

As always the National Board of Directors is seeking individuals who are willing to volunteer their time and efforts to help the National Fraternity further its goals.  Whether its marketing, advertising, web development, recruitment, sales, and engineering the National Fraternity can always find something for an Alumnus who wants to give back to the Fraternity.  If you are interested in doing something on the National level please contact Chad Pfister.
