Registration for National Convention Continues

Although the early registration period has passed, it is still not too late to register for the 2006 National Convention August 3-6 at the Seelbach Hilton in Louisville, Kentucky.  The registration for Beta Sigs will cost $175, while the cost for guests remains at $125.

The registration form can be found by clicking here.

The registration cost for members will allow entry to the Awards Breakfast on Saturday morning, the Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday night, entrance to all official Beta Sig Receptions, a continental breakfast on Sunday morning, entry to a popular Louisville landmark, and a memento to remember your attendance at the Convention.  For collegiate members, their registration fee will also cover 3 nights’ hotel room at the Seelbach Hilton.

The Registration costs for guests will include all of the above except entry to the Awards Breakfast on Saturday morning.  Instead, they will have entry to the official Beta Sig Spouse’s Tea that will be held on Saturday morning.  In addition to the Spouse’s Tea, spouses will be spending the day together sightseeing around downtown Louisville, taking a guided tour of the historic Seelbach, and other socializing events throughout the day.

Hotel reservations can be made by contacting the Seelbach Hilton at 502-585-3200.  The group rate is $109/night plus tax.  It is necessary to mention that you are with Beta Sigma Psi when making your reservation to get the group rate, which expires on July 7, 2006.  If you prefer to make your reservation on-line, the group booking code is BEM.  Collegiate members do not need to reserve rooms at the Seelbach, as the National Fraternity will be taking care of the ordering of rooms.

The National Convention is always a great time to interact with old friends and to make new friends.  So start making your plans now to attend the 2006 National Convention.

The official National Convention website can be found at http://convention.betasigmapsi.org.   If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Chad Pfister at president@betasigmapsi.org.

National Fraternity Sponsoring New Fall Program

The National Fraternity is proud to sponsor the first-ever New Member Forum this fall.  Session One will be held in the Omaha, Nebraska, area on Saturday, September 16.  Session Two will be held in the St. Louis, Missouri, area on Saturday, September 30.  All associate members, membership educators, and active and alumni members interested in associate and active membership education are strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions.

There will be separate programming tracks for associate and active members, as the groups are led through series of activities designed to enrich the associate member experience.  The programming will end in the early afternoon, and, in the afternoon and early evening, the National Fraternity will sponsor an ultimate Frisbee tournament that is open for all Beta Sigs.

More details will become available by the National Convention.  If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact Kevin Stinn at leadershipdirector@betasigmapsi.org.

Beta Sigs To Be Present at 2006 UIFI

Epsilon Chapter president Charles Fisher will be attending Session 7 of UIFI (Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute), a leadership program designed for fraternity and sorority leaders across the country that promotes conversations about the problems that Greeks face in their chapters and on their campuses.  National Leadership Director Kevin Stinn will also be attending Session 7 as one of sixteen facilitators.  Expect to see write-ups of their experiences at UIFI in a future publication.

National President To Be Unavailable in July

I will be unavailable for a two-week period from July 12 to July 26, as I will be in the final stretch of studying for the Missouri Bar Examination.  During that time, please contact Kevin Stinn via phone at 314-920-1544 or via e-mail at leadershipdirector@betasigmapsi.org if you have any questions or business to discuss.

Congressional Letter Writing Campaign

Several months ago, I asked everyone to participate in a Grassroots Letter Writing Campaign to members of Congress to assist in the passage of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act.  Well it is still not to late to participate in this campaign, in fact it is more important than ever for you to write to your Congressmen and Senators.

CHIA as it has come to be known in Fraternity circles would allow existing 501(c)(3) organizations, of which the Educational Foundation is classified as, to make grants to organizations which own collegiate housing for the purpose of making general physical improvements to the structure.  Currently, funds from 501(c)(3) organizations can only be used to make improvements to areas which are used for educational purposes.

Having just returned from Washington, D.C. where I had the opportunity to meet with several Congressmen, I can tell you more than ever that the success of getting CHIA passed relies on constituents writing to their members of Congress and telling them to sponsor and support CHIA.

According to the NIC’s lobbying firm Beta Sigma Psi has only had 10 letters written to Congress, of which half have come from myself.  This placed Beta Sigma Psi 63rd out of 73 Fraternities and Sororities.  While we were ahead of some larger Fraternities, I believe that Beta Sigma Psi can do better.

My challenge to the members of Beta Sigma Psi to for us hit triple digits by the end of May.  In fact there is no reason why Beta Sigma Psi shouldn’t have at least 6,000 letters sent to Congress. (That’s only 3 letters from each member of the distribution list).  All it takes is just a few minutes to send the letters, since the letters have already been drafted, and so all it takes is adding your name and university to the letter before it can be sent.

If you have already sent letters, I ask that you please do it again and make sure to send a copy to myself and the NIC’s lobbying firm.

More information about CHIA, the Letter Writing Campaign, and the sample letters can be found by going to http://www.betasigmapsi.org/congress.  If you have any questions please contact Chad Pfister.

Board of Directors Nominations

This is how we fulfill being "Brothers for All Time” by serving our fraternity when the opportunity arises. Your fraternity is looking for motivated brothers to answer the call to run for office on the National Board.

The challenges of recruitment, membership education, and public relations are a few of the duties candidates will face in their 2 year term.

Please contact Chad Winterhof at nominations@betasigmapsi.org to find out how your talents can best fit Beta Sigma Psi.

Fundraising Opportunity for Educational Foundation

Now you can raise money for the Beta Sigma Psi Educational Foundation just by searching the Internet at GoodSearch.com.

You use GoodSearch.com like any other search engine - the site is powered by Yahoo! - but each time you do, money is generated for us.  Here’s how it works:

1.      Go to www.goodsearch.com

2.      Type Beta Sigma Psi into the “I support” box and click on “verify”

3.      Search the Internet just like you would with any search engine

4.      Since GoodSearch shares its advertising revenue with charities and schools, every time you search the Internet at GoodSearch, you’ll be earning money for us.

5.      GoodSearch also has a toolbar you can download from the homepage so that you can search right from the top of your browser.  Go to the GoodSearch.com Toolbar and follow the instructions on how to download the toolbar to your computer!

You can keep track of our estimated earnings by clicking on “amount raised” once you designate us as your organization of choice.  We estimate that each search will generate approximately $0.01 for the Educational Foundation. If we can get 1,000 supporters searching twice a day we would receive an estimated $7,300 per year.  Even if we had 100 supporters searching twice a day we would earn an estimated $730.

The sky is the limit, though – the more people who use the site, the more money we’ll earn, so please spread the word!!
