Recruitment Forum a Success

This past weekend, the 2005 Recruitment Forum was held at Eta Chapter on the campus of the University of Missouri at Rolla.  The Forum was well attended by members from a majority of our collegiate groups.  Leadership Director Kevin Stinn and Regional Vice President Mark Scheibe led the sessions, which ranged from individual contemplations to chapter assignments to large group discussions.  The programming also featured a presentation from Eta alumnus Neil Wolf concerning a program in which Eta alumni participate in St. Louis called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).  Mr. Wolf demonstrated how alumni can initiate pipelines for recruitment by getting involved in programs like this in Lutheran high schools around St. Louis and other cities.

The main focus of the Forum was to allow chapter members to formulate recruitment plans and gather ideas from other chapters to bring back to their own chapters.  The morning sessions assessed what we hold as values for our fraternity, what potential recruits want as they come to college, and what our chapters must do to accommodate everyone’s needs.  The afternoon sessions featured every chapter presenting exactly what they did for recruitment the previous year and assessing what they needed to do to improve recruitment for this coming year.  Every chapter was able to take something new back to their respective campuses.

Based on the success of the Forum this year, the National Fraternity plans on hosting two sessions next year, one for the eastern chapters and one for the western chapters.  Details will come out sometime in the spring.

Regional Vice President Shuffle

During its September Conference Call the National Board of Directors accepted Adam Synoground’s resignation as Regional Vice President.  The Board would like to thank Adam on behalf of all Beta Sigs for his time in serving the National Fraternity and wish him good luck in his endeavors.

After accepting Adam’s resignation the National Board of Directors approved the appointment of Mark Scheibe (Epsilon) to fulfill the remainder of Adam Synoground’s term as Regional Vice President.  While at Epsilon chapter Mark served as President, Recruitment Chairman, and played an integral role in the recruitment of both the Fall 2004 and Fall 2005 Associate Member Classes.  Mark will make an excellent addition the volunteer staff of the National Fraternity.  Mark can be contacted at scheibe@mscheibe.com.

The National Board of Directors is evaluating at this time the specific chapters that each Regional Vice President oversees.  A final determination will be made in the coming days concerning this evaluation.  If you have any questions about this please contact Chad Pfister at president@betasigmapsi.org.

2006 Membership Education Forum/National Basketball Tournament

Start making plans now to attend the 2006 Membership Education Forum and National Basketball Tournament.  The 2006 MEF/NBT is being hosted by Epsilon Chapter on the campus of Iowa State University and will be held from February 3 – 5, 2006.

This year’s MEF will be the 10th installment of the event since it was created by 24th National President Craig Varner.  In honor of this 10th installment we are trying to make this the biggest and best Membership Education Forum ever.  In addition to MEF, the National Basketball Tournament will also be hosted on the same weekend.

A website is currently being designed that will have information about registration costs, directions, hotels, etc.  Also look to upcoming issues of Marty’s Boys for more information.  The National Fraternity looks forward to seeing everyone at this year’s MEF/NBT.

Calling All Photographers

The National Fraternity is in need of pictures for use on the soon to be released redesigned National Website.  In particular, the National Fraternity is looking for pictures from prior to 1995.   If you have any pictures that are already in computer format or can readable be scanned into a computer format please send them to Rudy Ristich at webmaster@betasigmapsi.org.  If you have any other questions concerning this request please contact Rudy.

P.S.  Look for the redesigned National website to hit the web in the next couple of weeks.

Congressional Letter Writing Campaign

The National Fraternity is participating in a Grassroots Letter Writing Campaign to members of Congress to assist in the passage of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act.  CHIA as it has come to be known in Fraternity circles would allow existing 501(c)(3) organizations, of which the Educational Foundation is classified as, to make grants to organizations which own collegiate housing for the purpose of making general physical improvements to the structure.  Currently, funds from 501(c)(3) organizations can only be used to make improvements to areas which are used for educational purposes.

We are asking our members to send letters to there respective Congressman and Senators asking them to sponsor and support the Collegiate Housing Infrastructure Act.  The letters have already been drafted, and so all it takes is adding your name and university to the letter before it can be sent.

More information about CHIA, the Letter Writing Campaign, and the sample letters can be found by going to http://www.betasigmapsi.org/congress.  If you have any questions please contact Chad Pfister.

Calling All Vocalists

Have you ever thought about what “Cross, Heart and Rose” sounds like when song in 4 part Harmony?  Have you ever wanted to learn and perform some of the songs of our History?

Well now you have that chance.  A group of Alumni is interested in putting together a group of Beta Sigs that will learn, perform, and possible record some of the old and new standards of Beta Sigma Psi.  If you can sing or play the piano and are interested in being a part of this endeavor, please contact Chad Pfister at president@betasigmapsi.org.  The hope is that this group can meet for the first time at the Membership Education Forum.

Trying to Increase Subscription Base

It is the goal of the National Board to use Marty’s Boys as a means of communicating on a more frequent basis with alumni, collegiate members, and all parties interested in the happenings of Beta Sigma Psi.  In order to do that, we are asking that you pass along Marty’s Boys to friends, family, advisors, and church officials that may not be currently subscribed to Marty’s Boys.  While we have done our best to ensure that we are reaching as many people as possible, there is always at least one person who we inevitably miss.

If someone would like to subscribe to Marty’s Boys they can do so by going to the following website http://lists.betasigmapsi.org/listinfo.cgi/martysboys-betasigmapsi.org.  If they have any problems they should contact Chad Pfister.

National Board of Directors Seeking Volunteers

As always the National Board of Directors is seeking individuals who are willing to volunteer their time and efforts to help the National Fraternity further its goals.  Whether its marketing, advertising, web development, recruitment, sales, and engineering the National Fraternity can always find something for an Alumnus who wants to give back to the Fraternity.  If you are interested in doing something on the National level please contact Chad Pfister.
